Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Ricky Quan, a sole proprietor doing business as Flashtab ("we"), collects when you use Flashtab, why, who we share it with, and your choices.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, password (stored securely by Amazon Cognito; we never see it), name, and phone number if you add one.
- What you add to Flashtab: groups, bills, amounts, items, notes, payments you record, and the names, emails or phone numbers of people you add.
- Receipt photos you scan, and the text read from them.
- Purchases: which plan you have, renewal dates and purchase records from the App Store, Google Play or our web payment processor. We never receive your card number.
- Payment handles you choose to add (for example a Venmo username or e-Transfer email), shown to people you split bills with.
- Ads (Free and guest use): Google AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address and information about ad views and clicks. On iPhone, the advertising ID is only used if you allow tracking. On the website, Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager use cookies and similar technologies to show and measure ads; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Technical data: basic logs (like time of a request and errors) used to keep the Service running and secure.
How we use it
- To run Flashtab: sync your bills across your devices and with the people you share them with, calculate balances, and send sign-up and password emails.
- To read receipts you scan (using Amazon Textract) and fill in line items.
- To provide Premium: check your plan, receipt-scan allowance, promo codes and free-trial eligibility.
- To show ads on the free plan and confirm rewarded videos you watched.
- To keep the Service secure, fix problems and prevent abuse.
We don't sell your personal information for money. Ads on the free plan may count as "sharing" for advertising under some laws (for example, California); see "Your choices".
Who we share it with
- People you split with: group members and people on your bills see the bills, names and receipt photos you share with them. Anyone you give a link to (when link sharing is on) can see that group or bill.
- Service providers who process data for us: Amazon Web Services (hosting, sign-in, storage and receipt reading, in the United States, region us-west-2), RevenueCat (purchases), Apple and Google (app stores and payments), and Google (AdMob in the apps, AdSense and Ad Manager on the website, for ads).
- Legal reasons: when the law requires it, or to protect people's safety or our rights.
- If we're involved in a merger or sale, your information may move to the new owner under this policy.
How long we keep it
- Account and bill data: while your account is open. When you delete your account it's erased, except bills shared with other Flashtab users, which stay for them with your name shown as "Deleted user" and your contact details removed.
- Settled history: a group archives itself once everyone is settled up and nothing has happened in it for 90 days, and bills outside groups are archived 90 days after they're settled. Archived bills (and their receipt photos) are deleted a year after they were archived; the groups themselves are kept.
- Server logs: 30 days.
- Receipt photos: deleted automatically after 365 days.
- Purchase records: as long as the stores and tax laws require.
Your choices and rights
- Ads: Flashtab Premium has no ads. On iPhone you can decline tracking when asked, or change it in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings. In the EU, UK and similar places you'll be asked for consent before personalised ads. On the website you can manage ad cookies in your browser and at Google's ad settings; visitors in the EU, UK and similar places are asked for consent first.
- Access, correction and deletion: you can edit your profile in the app, and delete your account in the app (Account tab → Delete account); see how to delete your account or data. To get a copy of your data, or to delete your account without the app, email contact@getflashtab.com. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California law) you may have further rights, including objecting to processing and opting out of sharing for ads. We won't treat you differently for using them.
Children
Flashtab isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and receipt photos are stored privately and shown only to people who can see the bill. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password.
International users
Flashtab's data is stored in the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, your information is transferred there.
Changes
We'll post updates here and tell you in the app or by email if a change is significant.
